The flower of life

The flower of life
Mosaic floor present in a house in the archaeological site of Ephesus, Turkey dating back to 100 A.C.

The flower of life consists of a geometric motif composed of a series of overlapping circles having the same radius in two-dimensional space. Commonly, the drawings are based on circles centered on triangles (with the simple two-circle shape called Vesica Piscis) or with a square reticular pattern. Figures composed of seven superimposed circles appear in historical artifacts from the 7th century A.C. on; They become a frequently used ornament in the period of the Roman Empire and survive medieval artistic traditions both in Islamic art (Girih‘s decorations) and in Gothic art. Particularly interesting is the six petal flower, derived from the model of the “seven superimposed circles”, also known as “Alps Sole” for its frequent use in popular alpine art in the seventeenth and 18th centuries. The most ancient artifact known of superimposed circles dates back to the VII or at the 6th century A.C., found on the threshold of the Palace of King ASSIRO AŠŠUR-BāNI-APLI in DUR Šarrukin (now at the Louvre). The flower of life is a fascinating and ancient symbol. It was present in different cultures around the world, however the denomination of “flower of life” only recently in the 1990s. In this period he was widespread by publications of the New Age movement and commonly attributed to Drunvalo Melchizedek who began to use it in the seminars that anticipated the publication of his book The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life (1999).

It is said that the fruit of life both the model of the universe and that contains the foundations for the structure of each atom, molecule, life form, and every other existing thing: if the center of every circle is considered a “node”, and each node is connected with Another node with a single line, is created a total of 78 lines that go to form the so-called Metatron cube. *
The oldest known depicts ofthe flower of life have been found in the Temple of Osiris in Egypt. These depicts of the symbol are fascinating because they have not been sculpted in the rock, but rather burned or drawn on granite with red ocher with great precision. Some believe that the symbol may have been used to represent the eye of RA.
